I’ve mentioned this before about Ron Paul. He uses the Libertarian label to excuse his radical ideas. He also gives the world a skewed impression of what Libertarianism is. I decided to research it myself and found a lot of conflicting ideas between Ron Paul’s brand of libertarianism, and actual libertarianism. For example, libertarians believe that the government should keep out of people’s pocketbooks and bedrooms. They are pro-choice. They support gay marriage and they also support free trade. Not Ron Paul. He introduces bills that go against the very principals of libertarianism. He talks about “freedom” and “liberty” every other second, but he does not apply these principals to specific issues that go against his own religious ideology. He believes in abstinence education. He is against sex education, and he opposes birth control. Ron Paul wants to abolish Roe vs. Wade. He has signed pledges and sponsored bills to work towards this goal. (The Sanctity of Life Act) Ron Paul is the co-sponsor of a bill called the Marriage Protection Act and he has also introduced the We The People Act to protect DOMA and to ensure that states only recognize marriages between a man and a woman. Ron Paul has stated that the states should be allowed to regulate social matters like sex, and that they should have the right to ban sodomy. This would allow the states to make sex between two gay men illegal. Another difference between libertarianism and Ron Paul is that he seems to blame everything bad that’s happening in the entire world on the Federal Reserve. Many Libertarians see this as too extreme and have trouble supporting him because of it. Some libertarians also say that Ron Paul lacks the social piece to libertarianism, and is far more of an isolationist. I’m happy to report that many libertarians also take issue with his vile newsletters lack of responsibility & concern. So in conclusion, racism is not a Libertarian quality, it is a Ron Paul quality. And NO- cut the “collectivism” bullshit, it’s racism.
“I don’t think he presents a calm, thoughtful, rational face for Libertarianism. I think he presents relatively cranky, corky, nutty, insane version and I don’t think that’s the right view of Libertarianism. I think Libertarians are capable of compromise in moderation even though they would like to clearly like to nudge us in the direction of less government.”
